Woke this morning to a blue dome of sky - Kate woke early and sat out on the balcony because, as she so rightly says, this time in two weeks we'll be back to earth with a bump, so we've got to make the most of it!
We'd booked a trip across the bay to Featherbed Nature Reserve, so walked into town and met the boat - and about 50 others who were also taking the journey. The trip across was great - chatting to lots of locals - who were a really friendly bunch - and oh, the languages on board - English, of course, Afrikaans, Xhosa - and all from the six people sat around us - they just hopped from one to another without a pause - amazing.
When we reached the nature reserve we all climbed into trailers pulled by a gigantic 4x4 truck, and we were towed slowly to the top of the western headland - close by some very precipitous edges I can tell you.
Then all out at the top for a guided walk through forest, fynbos, sea caves and board walks, with a very knowledgable and funny guide pointing out all the interesting stuff - and then we rounded a corner to come face to face with Bushbuck - a shy deer and it's fawn - incredible.
When reached the end of the trail we were treated to a fabulous buffet overlooking the gap between the Heads, with the waves crashing onto the shore.
The return trip across the lagoon took about half an hour and we had some fun with the guys from the outbound journey. Then into town for a pick-me-up coffee and back to Thesen harbour town to catch up on e-mails.
We ate just about to step out to sample the local oysters - Pete, I'll be thinking of you:-))
