Pouring rain this morning which lasted until midday. Used the cover of the woodshed at the Black Bull to strip down the poor bent Dawes of all it's accessories --threw the front pannier rack and the squashed basket into the bin. Fetched the new steed from Halfords-- it seems quite smooth to ride. Took all the silly bits off it and repositioned the rack, speedo, bell and my favourite saddle. Sold the Dawes to a second hand dealer--he was going to fit new forks.
The Black Bull is an old coaching inn and very comfortable. However the breakfast seems to be lacking in care factor! In the other b&bs everything you could possibly want is laid out on the table. At the BB toast is just two bits of cheapo bread chucked into a basket and the cereals are in a pile on a shelf.
Northallerton is a picturesque ancient town but rather spoilt by the constant traffic--there are about 15 pubs in the main street!
