The walk started at Ribblehead and we started off beside the massive arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct,which carries the Settle-Carlisle railway. The hard walk then headed west and south for the steady ascent of Whirnside--at 2419ft,the highest of Yorkshires' Three Peaks. Dry to start the walk but we were soon enveloped in cloud and subjected to rain and a ferocious wind.
