We arrived back in Shenyang on Tuesday afternoon and caught the bus home。 It was lovely to see Serena again, who I think had gotten pretty bored with being in Shenyang alone。
That night we had THE most amazing meal in Korea town。 We went to a restaurant that was initially thought looked a little drab judging by the menu, it was also situated in a back street in Korea town which is apparently full of the Korean Mafia (that‘s what Michael said anyway – I don’t entirely believe him!)。 Anyway, when we went in we were sat in our own little room with those “half tables“ where the legs only come to about half a foot above the floor。 We thought that we‘d have to sit with our legs crossed, but there was actually an area for us to put our feet and it was all just an illusion。
I ordered using my limited Chinese food knowledge and our waitress understood the occasional animal impressions we had to do。 We ended up with one of the best meals I have ever had。 We will deffo be going back there again!
We then went to a bar called Bobo‘s that did actually look as if it was some mafia bar。 It was pretty plush with leather seats and TV’s in each room, and was very expensive。 We ended up sharing 2 beers between 4 of us to be able to drink there。
After that me and Serena went home so that we could make it home in time for curfew。
On Wednesday we went exploring。 The day before I had found a bakery close by after a messed up on the buses, so we cycled there for breakfast。 It wasn’t as good as bread talk – but that’s a pretty hard place to beat。 After that we were going to cycle to the park, but only cycled as far as the 21st century building (about a third of the way)。 We found a random park behind that which had a random man made cliff face with a Chinese gazebo on and what looked like a dried up lake。
We caught the bus from here to the park。 When we got to the park we hired a 2 person bike。 I guess you could call it a surrey with a fringe on top。 The park was incredible。 There was random techno music (which wasn’t so great), the most amazing bouncy castle I have ever seen (I am sure Fin would have loved it), a place where kids could go in inflatable balls in a paddling pool, and a lake for adults to do it in, some amazing statues and it was such a lovely day, it was just a really fun cycle ride。
That night was Sandra’s last night in Shenyang before she changed placement, so we went to the Italian place for pizza。 While we were there we told people about the park and everyone wanted to see it, so the next day we headed back, this time it was me, Serena, Thore, Blandine, Josie and Thore‘s Chinese friend from Beijing Christina。
We hired 2 bike cars thinggys and cycled the lake where you can roll around a lake in inflatable balls。 We got there and had to stand in a deflated ball while they blew it up。 We then had to walk to the waters edge and go down a ramp into the water。 It looked like moving around should be easy。 We’ve all seen hamsters running around in balls – it really didn’t look like it should be that different。 Well it was。 It was really hard to move it anywhere and we were all falling around in these big bubbles in the lake。 We normally attract a lot of attention by being a group of white people。 Being a group of white people messing around in bubbles must have been a first for everybody watching!
After a while the air started to run out, and we all just lay there。 As I looked around at us all bopping about in bubbles it reminded me for the last scene in “Finding Nemo“ (hence the picture)。 It was really strange。 There must be something in human nature that when you start to run out of oxygen you start believing that someone is trying to kill you。 It sounds insane, but all 6 of us thought about this at some point or another。
After we escaped from the bubbles we bought balloons and went for lunch in a fancy restaurant (well, I say fancy, it cost ¥2 0 each) one of the meals was a potato dish with what tasted like that writing icing you get; it was pretty unusual。
In the evening we cycled to brand new world for dinner with Swedish Sandra who is replacing German Sandra at the school。 It was really nice to catch up, and I look forward to being able to spend more time with her and Melanie once they’ve settled in。
Today I had my worst class and then found out that my Senior class is in Hong Kong sitting their SAT‘s。 No one had told me this, so I have to change some of the SAT focused lessons that I have for when they get back。 It is really nice to have the time off though!!
