I LOVE TEACHERS DAY!!!
"Teachers day - The day honours teachers' virtues, pains, and also their contribution not only to their own students but also to the whole society. People often make use of the day to express their gratitude to their teachers, such as paying them a visit or sending them a card. Carnations are often given as a sign of respect."
I have only had one lesson and already received presents :-)
The last few days have been good. Serena has 9 days off because the first years have gone to military school to learn how to march. On Serena's first day off during our Mandarin class (I now know how to order lunch) I found out that the head of english also had the time off and that she would be observing my next lesson. It all went well. I was also observed during my senior class. The class Miss Xu attended happened to be my culture class where I was teaching customs and etiquette. It was a lot of fun and I think that Miss Xu even enjoyed it. It was so funny to go over dinner table etiquette with mismatch knives and forks and listen to Chinese students say things like "I just don't get it - why would you eat with something sharp" and "surely you just make a mess eating like that" - clearly they've never seen me eat with chopsticks!!
I also had a really good lesson with the class that I have been struggling with. We played a game called backs to the board and every student got involved at at least 65% spoke in class. Fingers crossed that I can use it in the future to keep them motivated!!
Anyway - I had better get back to enjoying teachers day!! For those of you who are teachers and don't get to celebrate teachers day - you need to change country I have heard of people going on 4 day holiday, receiving silk bed sheets and being taken out for meals. I think you all deserve that!
