My seniors actually did all their work last week :-) Oh the power I have。 I told them that if the ones who hadn't done the work didn't do it, then the whole class would be in trouble。 I couldn't think what kind of trouble they'd be in, but it didn't matter in the end anyway。
I had a short weekend this weekend。Golden week is coming up, and we had to work extra days to make up the time we have off。 This week I had to work Sunday, and I also need to work the Saturday that we get back。 On top of that, my school has been shut early because so many students have fevers。 It's not swine flu, but some other virus that they tend to have this time of year。 I was a bit worried because not a single student from my favorite class was in on Sunday。 My other classes have been smaller (about 30 students), which has been really nice。 It seemed a lot easier and quicker to teach 30 kids, even if they did come up to me every now and again to show me their temperatures so that they could go to the nurse。
Anyway - because they have an extra day off it means that I will have to work another weekend to make up the time。
I am currently putting together a huge presentation on music for my senior students culture class - I am enjoying making the presentation a little bit too much。 I have managed to work out how to upload music and get it onto powerpoint even though it was all in Chinese! I was meant to have the first lecture of music tomorrow - but I'll now have to wait until after the holidays (which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it)
On Saturday we went to the Liaoning provincial museum, which is the museum for the province that I cam currently in。 It was really interesting。 It's full of artifacts, calligraphy, money and even has a fossil of a Neanderthal man which I had studied in "Evolutionary Biology" at University。 At the time I remember needing to learn the name of the province from which the name was found, but just remembering China instead。 Who would have thought that Liaoning Province would mean so much to me just a few years later。
That night we continued out adventures around Shenyang and explored Korea Town。 We had a really nice Korean barbeque with Oley,Blandine, Adam,Michael, Alex, Sandra, Melanie (and of course Serena, but obviously I was referring to her by saying we)。 It was a really nice meal。 Korea Town seems to just be full of KTV (karaoke), so we may have to venture back for a big KTV night。
It is currently the mid-autumn festival。 During this period you eat mooncake。 I have received 2 boxes of mooncake from the school and one from a student。 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Autumn_Festival They're pretty nice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooncake
To celebrate the festival the achool also made am amazing meal for all the foreign language teachers and Vice Principal. The Principal was meant to come too, but we were relieved when he didn't because he would have thought we were idiots when he saw us trying to eat sophisticatly with chopsticks!
On that note, it was Mr Christian's birthdayat the weekend and we had birthday cake to celebrate. All the Japanese teachers ate it with chopsticks. It was pretty impressive - but I'd prefer a sppon anyday!
My hotmail is currently blocked (I'm not sure why, but it may either be because of the national day or because it's the one year anniversary of the Tibetan Monk protest) I think I have managed to successfully redirect my mail to a google mail account - but if you do want to contact me, it maybe best to use the message board on this blog。
I'll update you all on Inner Mongolia when I get back :-)
