While Berlin should be all fits and giggles, and all of my blog updates thus far have suggested that life here is perfect, there are some things I am somewhat ashamed of, and some things that need to be done still to allow me to convince myself that I am actually a real grown up:
·I stole a Twix. I'm not proud of it, and didn't eat it myself, but I shoplifted a Twix when drunk. Sorry, world.
·I got so drunk on Saturday that I made drunken phone calls I can't even remember, and was taken home in a taxi. I was looked after well, and with the failure of any punishment for being a drunken mess - in fact quite the opposite - this is liable to happen again.
·My plant, Nancy, is looking a bit withered. Because I stay in bed all day so she gets hardly any sunlight.
·Though my McDonald's attendance has waned, I still went the other day for a Big Tasty Meal.
·I have not spoken much German at all. Even when I try to, those on the other end of the conversation either switch to English, or I do when I get to a word I don't know in German. I speak more German when I drink, but considering I supposedly moved here to get fluent, so far it's a poor show.
·It took me over 4 weeks to even start looking for a job. When I finally got around to it, one bar took my name and number. When the guy rang me the next day, I didn't understand anything he was saying except "Samstag nachmittag". I might try and go there on Saturday afternoon, and pretend my phone had bad signal or something. But getting a job with my level of German is gonna be really difficult.
·I took a short trip to Luxembourg and got a permanent reminder of a drunken night, a tattoo. It is dedicated to the Luxembourgish tradition of boys giving the girls they like a giant pretzel on the last Sunday of Lent. Check the pics. And yes, it does read "Love From Luxembourg" around the pretzel.
But hey, it's not all bad news.
·I'm going to see Bat For Lashes in concert.
·I cooked some food all by myself. Germany doesn't sell chicken fillets you can put in the oven, so I had to cook it in a pan. That was a big deal for me. And I cooked peas in a pan too. I was proud.
·I spoke to a friend from England on the phone (Mike). And even if it was short, it was nice to hear a familiar voice.
·Yesterday's brief depression got solved with chocolate, and I didn't even eat that much of it!
·I realised I had £1000 more than I remembered. Still need a job ASAP, but that was a pleasant surprise!
·My brother visits on Wednesday
Have a good weekend if anyone is reading this :)
