Den on the loose
NZ Day Sixteen
Woke up to a beautiful sunny da, the girls left the hostel at half one and i had my Nevis bungy jump today at two which hadn't really entered my head that much as i was pre-occupied with other things for the last 3 or 4 days. So after seeing the girls off i met up with the lads at the checking in place for our bungy.
After checking in and coincidently we had to be weighed and i weigh 63kg we got on the board the 4WD bus up to the bungy point which took 40 mins to get to.
At this point i wasn't really feeling scared whatsoever or even anxious in fact i was more excited if anything while Mark and Tim looked nervous, i think i was feeling hungry and a little bit tired but definetely looking forward to it.
On the way we saw an ostrich in a pen which was really bizarre but when we arrived at the top we were told to get into a harness which sort of pinch your 'family jewels' which made me start to worry about any whiplash on the way back up but i was assured it would be ok.
As we waited to get onboard the lift to get across to the fixed gondola i was jumping about like a crazy man but i was full of energy and couldnt stop smiling for some reason and i was really really looking forward to it whereas the guys were more like "Yeah nice one Den, now sit down" i think the nerves had go to them but it was fair enough as it did look high with nothing but a little stream and lots of rocks below us.
When it came to my jump they had to put me in what looked like a chair used for delievering babies so they could strap me up and take picture of me.
Now came the moment of truth as i shuffled up to the edge of the jump off point i was told to put weight on my ankles and i was like "huh?" but iwas basically so they could drop the bit of bungy over the edge but i wasnt too sure how heavy it would be and i didnt wanna topple over so i cautiously shuffled over to the tip of the edge.
5-4-3-2-1 BUNGY!!!!!!!!!
As i jumped off as high as i could keeping my arms wide and straight as if i was diving into a pool i felt the rush of the wind hit me and and eerie feeling that you get when you're free falling for 9 seconds which seems like an eternity.
During Mid-fall things were running through my head like 'Jesus i'm falling and i'm about to hit that pebble right below me is there anything attached to me?" And thats when it hits you and you bounce back up and then back down again all the while upside down and the bounce up back up is just as good as the freefall.
Freefalling like that was the BEST thing i've ever done in my life. When i got back up to the top i was like full of energy even more so, the jump was so good that i booked myself another jump but this time it was from 'The Ledge' near the Skyline Gondola and it was only 47m but it gave me the opportunity to do a run and jump instead of a stationary jump from a ledge.
So yep another bungy tomorrow for me to do WOO-HOO!!!!
