For the non-foodies in the group this may be a bore, but when in France, food is très importante!
Nicolas has friends near Buoux who have a very interesting garden. Jean-Luc is the gardener and his wife Joelle is the cook. Jean-Luc is something of a leader in France's bio-diversity movement. He was concerned that so few varieties of fruits and vegetables were being grown. Every farmer grew the exact same variety of tomato or potato, even though there are dozens, if not hundreds of known varieties. So he got curious about what he could grow and searched out the seeds to try. He started selling his produce in the local markets and became somewhat famous. Now there are so many other people growing multiple varieties that he doesn't bother taking his produce to the markets anymore. He sells to a few area restaurants, he sells produce to people who come by his house and Joelle cooks wonderful meals for guests.
We were lucky enough to have one of those meals for lunch. The picture above shows the amazing colors, but that can't do justice to the explosion of flavors. Everything was grown in their garden, most had been picked within the last day and it was the freshest, best tasting meal I think I've ever had. Yum!!!!
