Last Day of Cycling:
Today was my last day on the bike. Tomorrow I'll take the train into Paris to pack up my bike and relax for a day before heading home.
My last day was bitter-sweet. The day started in a haze. The bike path I've been following for the last couple of days left Blois following close on the shore of the Loire River and it was thick with fog. It was eerie and beautiful at the same time. I could barely see the river next to me and the fog deadened any sound. The only thing I heard were my tires crunching through the fallen leaves, which were so deep in places that I couldn't see the path. After awhile the path curved away from the river and up through a small village. In an instant, the fog was behind me and I emerged out under crystal clear skies. The air was cool and crisp. France gave me a glorious fall day for my last bike ride!
It's funny how cool temperatures can seem cold and depressing on a cloudy day, but the same temperature on a sunny day seems wonderful and invigorating. Todays ride was definitely invigorating. The only blemish on the day was getting a flat tire just after lunch. It's funny that I could ride for almost 6 weeks without a flat and then have one within 20 kilometers of the end. But, that's part of cycling, so I fixed it and finished the day.
This is probably my last post from France. I'll post another message when I get home and have a chance to add up all the 'stats' from the trip. I hope you've all enjoyed this little blogging experiment of mine. Au revior!!
