Update of the update of the update
Okay, I'm sorry for no updating you for such a long time. I was pretty busy with getting started in FO (reception) but now I got some spare time to tell you what I've been up to.
BDay
I had to work on my BDay in the restaurant (wow such a long time ago already) but only early shift which came in handy since my parents arrived around the same time as I was finished. Everybody was really nice and sang for me and I got a card as well. When I was finished, we went to the flat first because Mummy wanted to see where I live :P After that I showed them some nice places around Ealing Broadway and then we went back to have my gorgeous BDay dinner: TGI Friday's BBQ Spare Ribs and Chocolate Fudge Cake! Hmmmmm, I was in heaven. We walked a bit around town and then I dropped them off at the hotel again and went home (after 8 hours morning shift, I was really tired).
The next day we wanted to go to Brighton but the weather was too bad for an outdoor day so we stayed in London. On Friday they already had to leave around noon :( But I think they'll come back soon enough :D
Saturday and Sunday I had to work again and it was sooooo busy, phew I'm glad I don't have to do all the walking anymore
First Days in FO
Well then on Monday after that I started my ''real'' placement. First day in reception. I started of with getting my new uniform which was harder than it sounds. Okay, try to find a size 6 shirt and jacket for Judith somewhere. I didn't know that they had like 3 different offices with uniforms and we walked all over the building to find something. In the end I got a jacket that wasn't too big for me :D Well I told them, I'm short, get me the smallest size you have and I'm not joking about it :D
Then I went back to reception and until the afternoon, I just mainly watched how everything worked. I read parts of the SOPs and stuff like that, answered the phone etc. Nothing too complicated for me haha. Luckily, I also had a training workshop that day about customer service. It was nice because you can get out of your normal daytoday working schedule but for me it was all common sense. Service Service Service.
The next 2 days I basically did the same. Watching, asking questions, answering the phone and so on. And updating profiles in the PMS with new contact details and credit cards. By the end of the week, I started doing my own check-ins. My colleagues said that that is kind of quick because usually it takes longer to start with check-ins. woohooo me!On Friday the girls from reception invited me to join their hen party. Of course, I'm in. We went to a cocktail bar in Soho first. It was really cool because we had our own VIP area, some free nibbles, bubbles and lots of pinchers of different cocktails. After that we went to a private Club on Soho as well. It was really fancy because we didn't have to pay any entrance and where picked up by the owner at the door and he kindly gave us a bottle of really good champagne as a welcome drink. Actually we also wanted to go to Punk (a cool rock club with rockstars ;) ) as well but we never made it there :( Well next time ;)
In the weekend I was off....relaxing after having worked for 7 days in a row and a lot of new impressions which really can make you tired.
On Monday Ricky was here because he was on his way to Arizona and had a day off in between. We did some sightseeing in London and a loooooot of walking. Next day's early shift was really hard because my legs did not get enough rest from standing, I thought they'd fall off. And I felt a little sick, headache, tired. But next day everything was fine again, phew....no swine flu.
Thursday was my productive day. And that although I was off! I did my vote for the elections in Germany, I paid all the bills, I finished my placement plan, I did my Draft for the Company Assignment and some shopping. Great hugh?
On Friday I was actually meant to be off, but Szuszanna (FO Manager) called me if I could do a middle shift. Hmmmm......but she offered to give me 3 days off in a row next week and I couldn't resist ;) In the evening I planned a party for my colleagues from F&B. But a lot of people chickened out last minute and so there were only 2 left. Me and my colleague Konrad from Poland. We were waiting at the walkabout for 2 hours and nobody showed up, well, so let's go somewhere else. Let's go to Trocadero! We played bowling (I'm a loser at it, just nothing compared to bowling on the wii!) and car racing (I won!!!!) and some dumb shooting game. After that we went to Planet Hollywood and had some cocktails. And then we wanted to go for that Rockclub somewhere in Soho but we both didn't where it was, so we ended up in the Slug and Lettuce. Not enough for today, my colleague had an idea out of the sudden to go to the river for some fresh air. Cool, let's go. By 11pm I got a phone call from another colleague ''Where are you?'' Yeah well, not there anymore, we waited for 2 hours. We went home around midnight but I fell asleep on my way back. Very strange. The last three stops are North Acton (I still remember that I was awake), West Acton (where I need to get off) and Ealing Broadway...well, I was kindly woken up at Ealing Broadway but was a little shocked by that (anybody reminded of Creep with Franka Potente? at least my part of the tube is not underground anymore). Luckily there was still one tube to go back eastbound, so I didn't have to walk.
Okay, now I already arrived at 'Yesterday' with my stories. It was a very quiet day at work, nothing really important happened. I can do both check-in and check-out by now (not taking all the special things that might occur into account which I still need to learn) and today I'll be at the desk alone for 2 hours aaaaaaaaaah. I will manage I hope. The only stupid thing is that we're taking over the CRO (central reservation office) after 8pm....which is exactly at the time where I am alone...ah well...didn't have a traiing for that yet....do not panic :)
Next week I'm 3 days off in a row and I am still thinking of what to do....Brighton maybe....or Windsor....something like that.
See you arouuund.
