Late Night Update
Security Alert: I'm writing this after a very busy, exhausting and long day...Do not pay attention to typos and sentences that don't make sense...in my head it is all clear.
Okay, let's start.
Today and yesterday, I was doing late shifts and I actually like them better than early shifts...somehow it's still busy but the work is easier :)
There are basically three things you need to do on your late shift: PDQ reconciliation (process data quickly....those credit card machines...not quick all the time if you ask me), printing arrival labels, checking the float and that's it. Well from my point of view because I didn't have a training for the other things we need to finish. And check-ins of course.
Yesterday was not that busy but the evening ended not so nice because there was a bag stolen from one of the guests rooms and we needed to call the police. Not good at all.
Today it was really busy because we're having a wedding party the coming three days who took about 20 rooms all together and it was pretty confusing because people staying in one room do not necessarily have the same name and the booking was made under yet another one and rooms have already been allocated for them but everyone wanted to change and it was all messed up and crazy but we managed to satisfy them all. Ah well, I'm off tomorrow when they're going to have the actual wedding phew.
Other strange things that happen at reception are that you have guests who think they paid already for their reservation when they gave their credit card details online. Nope, you haven't, just for guaranteeing the booking. Then on check-in they don't have a credit card with them, only a debit card and the limit wouldn't allow us to take a pre-authorization to cover at least one night....well...what to do what to do?
Or...you have guests who are exchanging body fluids right in front of you when they're checking in. In other circumstances I'd say 'Get yourself a room!' but that was what they were actually doing, so I couldn't say anything...Just smile and wave :)
Or....you spend an eternity on the phone with someone from a travel agent to re-find a booking from July only to find out that the booking was at another date than mentioned on the phone AND at another Hotel of the chain, although I've asked if we're looking for a booking at my hotel. Ah well....
Okay that's it for today, tonight, yesterday, whatever. I'm going to bed now. Oh no....one more thing. Not important, just like the rest I'm telling you but still...it might contribute to your amusement about my time over here: How can you miss your tube stop, although you haven't been asleep? I told you about the one time when they woke me up in Ealing Broadway....okay okay...I was asleep. But today? I was wide awake and paying attention and everything but then I ended up in Ealing Broadway again!
Tomorrow I'm off (first of all) and then I'm going to a Rifles concert in the evening first. And then to Bethnal Green to a Drum and Bass evening/event/party whatever you might call it. I don't like the music but it's the birthday of one of my colleagues so I'm gonna drop by.
Next week Sanna, my coach from school is coming and I'm actually really looking forward to it. Showing her where I work, with whom I work, what I learned etc. I hope she'll be satisfied.
Oooooh, I almost forgot the most exciting thing. Next Wednesday it's going to be very interesting because they are shooting a movie right in front of the hotel. The film is called 'The special relationship' and is starring Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore. The story is about the relationship between Clinton and Blair and the scene they are going to shoot in front of the hotel is set in Washington and Blair is arriving in a Limousine being greeting by the president and the first Lady. I'm really curious how this is goint to be and if we'll be able to see something nice.
Okay, but now for real. Sleep well, slaap lekker and Gute Nacht!
