I woke up today in my hotel, ordered breakfast in my room of an omelette and mango juice, and packed to stay with my Balinese family. They are Murdi, his wife Suri, their 8yo daughter Komang and their youngest son Kadek who is 16. I have his room and feel bad taking it but they won't hear of any other way. I feel like my Nan is here with me and I can honestly say I can see what she saw in this place and this family. They are truly beautiful people and just want to please. I went with Murdi on the scooter today to pick up Komang from her school which for some reason was a real treat for her! All her friends were shyly curious of the white lady with blonde hair. To get there we had to ride past the prison where Shapelle Corby is apparently no longer a resident, horrid looking place. I then went upstairs to the beautiful temple that Murdi has built, as they are Hindu. I found it a very moving experience watching his wife make offerings of flowers, fruit and incense to the Gods. Such spiritual people I hope they can restore the meaning to my life! They seem to have an innate sense of contentedness that can only come from love and a belief that the universe will provide. Komang is such a sweet little thing I adore her already, this is one child I am NOT allergic to. I showed her my hair straightener and we straightened my hair even though it was so hot! I gave her my nail polish and I went and bought donuts and coke for her which she loved of course, typical kid loves lollies and is addicted to tv. I am sitting with her right now and she is watching me type intently getting an English lesson at the same time. If there is anything I can do for these people I will! They are just such lovely people I wish there were more of them in this world! It would certainly be a better place. Early night for me tonight as I have a bus to catch at 6am to get to the boat which will take me to Lombok and my friends! Can't wait! Tonight is a full moon.
