This morning we had a cooked breakfast at the b&b we were staying at and then headed off to explore the Great Orme. It is a huge Limestone headland, there is also a Little Orme on the other side of the bay. Llandudno is right at the top of Wales and is very pretty.
We caught the cable car to the top and it was very windy on the ride and a bit when we got to the top. We walked around and went into the information centre which had information on the birds, animals, plants and also about the geology, mining and history.
We had a hot chocolate in the summit centre and then went to an old quarry which had lots of fossils in it and people had spelt out names from the rocks on the hillside. I made one for me, a big T.
Then we walked down to the Great Orme mine which was amazing. They thought it dated from the Roman times which is pretty old anyway, but in 1987 they discovered some old workings which proved it was from the Bronze Age and has been dated to 4000 years old. You get to walk down into the workings to levels 1 and 2 but it goes down to 9 levels and they are still excavating it as the old people put all the waste Rock into the holes and geologists and archaeologist are slowing excavating it all out. You also get to walk around the top to see the open cut and learn how they smelted the copper.
This photos is of me about to go into the mine.
After that I wanted to catch the team down to Llandudno but mum and dad made us walk. Then we caught the local bus to Conwy which is a few miles away and we walked all around the wall which was very old and near one part is Britain's smallest house, it was tiny and an old fisherman over 6 feet used to live there. There were a lot of Welsh flags flying as Wales was about to play Portugal in the Euro cup semi final that night but sadly they lost but did well to get that far.
We caught the bus back to our B&B and had Indian for dinner.

Robyn Calder Tilly you make me laugh. Only because I can see you, Ellyse and Jay have lots in common - love food, dislike walking. Sounds like a very interesting trip with lots of history.
