Day 241, 8 Feb '15, Enniscorthy "Travel Day" - Across this very bridge to one of the best deals ever. Ever. When we were last in Ireland (October 2012) they were still in the grip of the recession and B&Bs of superb standard were around€45 a night (maximum). This time around €60 seems to be the going rate - so A$65 vs. A$90 per night. Quite a jump. Our last couple of nights were €60/night but the highlight was hanging out in an eclectically decorated and very funky cafe - chock-full of locals. So breakfasts were grand as we normally wouldn't go out and spend €25+ on the first meal of the day. However. There are still whopping great deals to be had if you know the going price and simply say to yourself, "I'm not going to pay it." One of the nicest hotels in town, with several restaurants and bars, is Treacys Hotel (where we had dinner for James's 50th). After a bit of email correspondence and to-ing and fro-ing, we came up with 4 nights accommodation in a massive king bed room (with the all important bath). And a buffet breakfast every day. And a 2 course dinner for three of the nights. For a grand total of €270. That's a mere €67/A$100 per night. We've figured out between dinner and breakfast that we're staying here for about €1 per night. Legendary deal. Anyway, we finished up with a lovely brekkie at the Cotton Tree Cafe, gathered up the baggages and trundled across to our new hotel. Spent a half hour walking along the River Slaney - even saw some Canadian Geese - then 'lo and behold our room was ready and we settled in. Compulsory "no responsibilities" nap and an afternoon movie then off for dinner. Ahhh... a bargain tastes ever so sweet.
