Hi, we are now on South Island. The ferry crossing was fine, it was a bit cloudy and drizzly but the last stretch heading into Picton, South Island was still amazingly picturesque and moody! Unfortunately we couldn't persuade the boys to have a look so Al and I had to take it in turns to go out on deck and look at the scenery and take photos! We then headed down the Island to Kaikoura stopping at a picnic spot for lunch. It was amazing scenery, very mountainous and green - the weather isn't so great here! We followed the coast road down so we had the sea to one side of us and mountains ahead. At one point we were aware of seals lounging around on the rocks so we got out and had a look and along a stretch of coast there was this colony of fur seals - it was amazing to watch them in natural surroundings and naturally we took loads of photos and video it was magical! We arrived in Kaikoura about 3, checked into the campsite and went exploring, quite a small town but lots of quirky little shops and cafes, real sort of travellers atmosphere about it. Just a bit grey and drizzly which we're not used to! We have booked ourselves onto a dolphin spotting tour tomorrow but it may not happen - it's very weather dependent and because the kids are so small they may recommend we don't go - we'll just have to wait and see, I'm desperate for the kids to see some. Back to the site where the boys had a swim - apparently the pool is warm! Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
