Ok so we didn't manage to see the dolphins today! We woke to grey skies, really low cloud and incessant drizzle - typical Dineen summer holiday in Cornwall weather! We had a lazy morning round the campsite then wandered out for a coffee, then down to the seal colony again. We had to wait until 12 for the skipper to make a final decision, and unsurprisingly it was a no! We treated ourselves to lunch out then wandered round the shops for a bit. Had a leaflet for a local farm park which sounded pretty good so in desperation we headed there - it wasn't! It was ok but was basically someones land with some animals on, all roaming free which the boys weren't too keen on! We stayed for half an hour or so and Thomas managed a pony ride and Joe stroked the rabbits! We then visited the little museum here which was tiny but really interesting, all about the whaling they used to do here and loads of old photos of the town. They also had the old jail on site with 2 cells one of them padded, the boys thought it was great to be locked in! It's really frustrating about the weather as Kaikoura is supposed to be spectacular "where the mountains meet the sea" but we just haven't seen them. There's some lovely postcards of the snow-capped mountains as a backdrop to the town but we can't see even a hint of them, the cloud is so low and thick it's almost claustrophobic. The locals are raving about the rain as everywhere is so dry and they haven't seen any for so long, we're just bitterly disappointed that we might not see the dolphins or mountains!! Booked on again for tomorrow so we'll see.
