Mambo! This morning we took a ferry over to Prison island which is a little island 3 or 4 kilometers away from the Zanzibar mainland. Well, when I say ferry I really mean a wooded boat that was about 20 years old and would almost capsize with any unbalance in the boat. These boats are called Dhow boats and they are primarily used for fishing. It was an interesting ride. Unfortunately I forgot to take my Dramemine and I got alittle sea sick. The island was once used for a quantine isladn for cholera and other infestous disease that were prelivant in the 19th century. Unfortunately a rich oil company bought the island and turned the historical buildings into a hotel and restaurant. They also had a sea turtle reserve on the island. It was really cool because there were like 50 sea huge sea turtles and peacocks running around every where. We got to feed to turtles. There was a turtle there that was 180 years old. It was brought to the island as a gift to the sultan during that time period. We had a great time. The ride back wasnt as bad. We then had lunch at a true loal diner. The food was plentiful, cheap, and delicious. I had minced meat over rice. We then walked all over town to find ice cream. Once we found it we ate our ice cream and watch kids play futbol and other games on the beach while the sun set. It was really beautiful. Tonight we are going to an authentic indian restaurant and then I think we are going out to celebrate my birthday at midnight. We have made quite a bit of friends here so I think we will meet up and hangout. We have to leave Zanzibar tomorrow morning at 6am so Im hoping that it wont be a late night but hey..its my birthday and Im in Africa. We will be in transit all day tomorrow to head to Iringa. Ryan's family lives there and we are having a huge party on Friday to celebrate Ryan and his wife's wedding aniversary. There are going to be like 50 people at this party. It should be a great time!! Thank you all for reading my posts. I appreciate all your comments. I really enjoy writing them because I am constantly experiencing something new every day that I want to make sure that I remember them! Miss you all! Love you!
