Jambo! Another day in paradise!! Yesterday we left for the east coast of the island. On the way over we stopped off at a national park that protect colobus monkeys. We walked into the woods and then all of a sudden we heard this intense screaming and trees swaying dramatically. We turned the bend and came upon roughly 20 monkeys jumping from tree to tree and playing. I took video and so many pictures because it was an amazing sight. They didnt seem to mind us at all and were running practically over our feet to catch the other moneys. I walked baby monkeys holding on the their mothers and other grooming each other. We watched them for over an hour as they wrestled with each other and swung from tree to tree. It was so cool. I really wanted to take one home with me. I actually had noe monkey who was very interested in me reach up at me and touch my purse and then run away. What an awesome experience!
We pulled up to our hotel and it was this beautiful buglalow just a 100 yards from the beach. We stayed in a round hut with a loft on top to hangout in. In the middle of the compound were hammock, swings, and a large bonfire pit. We walked down to the beach and it was like nothing I had ever seen in my life! The sand was as fine as baking powder. The water was crystal blue! And there were no one in sight!! What a dream come true. I never imagined a place like this could ever exist, but it truly does. I walked up and down the beach collecting cowrie shell and enjoying the nice cool breeze. We went swimming and the water felt great! Very rereshing after the oppressed heat of the city. Later that night we had a great meal and then me and 2 friends walked back down to the beach. The stars looked like I could reach up and touch them. I felt like I was in a snowglobe surrounded by stars. That moment on the beach was such a profound moment. I was truly inspired and touched at how big the world is and how little I am. At that moment nothing on the planet could have changed the way I felt. It was amazing! This morning we planed to wake up at sunrise but that did not happen. I hadnt had more than 5 hours of sleep since I got here and it all caught up to me. I felt well rested and had a healthy breakfast of watermelon, papaya, banana, eggs, and chipata which is a sweet flat bread. I was really worried about the food here but I am more than pleasantly surprised at how tasty and fresh everything is. I have even eaten fish on a regular basis....Jared you should be proud! ( and yes Dad I felt okay after the street food which I was quite surprised) Abby and I took a long walk down the beach and watched wind surfers playing in the water. I can hear kids from down the beach yelling "jambo!" Everywhere I go.
I have taken about 400 pictures and many videos so far but I have not had a single moment to upload them. The internat service is very slow so it would take longer than I have time for right now. I will sit down and upload soon so you all can see what I see. To my family, Im sorry I have not called very much. I have run out of minutes on my phone and I cant find anymore right now. When I do I will call you, but trust that I am doing well and having the time of my life! I love you all and miss you so much!!
