Fri night / Saturday
After a bit of a mishap on thursday night when the bikes fell off the car while dad was driving through Hertford we sat of at 2.30 on our merry way with mum taking the back seat along with the bikes! We arrived at wadebridge just before 9 and there was time for acouple of pints before an early night. Dad woke at what he thought 7 and got ready for the day before putting on his watch and discovering the bedside clock was an hour fast, leaving him plenty of time to prepare for the day ahead. After a misty start we arrived at lands end at 11 to bright sunshine and set off for Penzance where I had to make a stop to buy trainers to cycle in as I'd forgotten mine. We cycled along the seafront that had incredible views across the bay, unfortunately the track was stony and I got the first puncture of the trip after only 12 miles. The weather stayed pleasant all day and we met up with mum for lunch (where dad managed to leave his water bottle). The route was very hilly and draining and I was struggling at the end, but we arrived back at the accomodation at 6 ( I also spotted 2 childrens centres on the way which I excitedly pointed out to dad). After a quick shower we went for a curry to celebrate the end of the first day and mums upcoming birthday. As we were all tired we were tucked up in bed by 10, dreaming of what lay in store for us the next day.
Sunday
Woke to heavy grey skys and blustery winds. The support crew was heading off today, so it felt like the real thing was starting. At the beggining of the trip we agreed 2 rules
1. Cycle the whole way, no lifts or public transport
2. No getting off and walking
the second of these was broken 5 minutes into today's cycle when we rounded a corner to see a sign warning us of a 28degrees incline, it was like the north face of the eiger! The day was grey windy and showery. There would of been some great views if we could of seen them through the mist. We reached okehampton by 4 after enjoying a pasta salad in a lidl car park for lunch, so we have had a good rest before a killer day tomorrow.
P.S. The generation gap is being shown in full - dad is writing notes for this blog on paper before I type them up on my iPhone.
