Friday am.
2 rest days down one to go. Trying to psych ourselves up for the second part of the trip.
Journey from Moffat to Milngavie (as in mill-guy) relativley easy and uneventful. The old road north runs alongside and criss-crosses the M74. Lots of climbing, but not steep climbs so we keep up a good pace. A lot chillier!
Lunch was pasts salad outside ASDA in Blantyre, about 20 miles south of Glasgow. We'd held on to our plastic forks from before so no need to eat with our fingers this time.
Planned to miss the city rush hour traffic by skirting round it, but as we were early went for the route through the Clyde tunnel. Benefitting at this stage from a bit of local knowledge. Arrived at tunnel, but no sign of cycle entrance. After cycling around a while discovered the entrance which is well and trully locked and barred. Detour to city centre and into early rush hour traffic. So much for the local knowledge.
Tomorrow's journey takes us to Crianlarich - about 50 miles, mostly along the shore of Loch Lomond. Could be idyllic, but as its a bank holiday could also be very busy. Not so many chances to take minor routes since there tends to be only one road going in any particular direction.
There's been snow on the mountains overnight - apparently the ski runs will be open for the bank holiday, so thermals could come into their own for this stage. My sister has also supplied me with Avon "Skin so Soft" for the dreaded midgies. Its the start of the midgie season - they obviously like bank holidays. From previous experience its fine whilst you are moving, but as soon as you stop they descend like a host of locusts and bite you to pieces.
Hopefully bodies and machines will hold out for the next 300 or so miles.
This is my first access to a computer since Leominster, so thanks again for all the messages - keep them coming, Ewan reads them out to me at the end of the day.
