Firstly let me aplogise for the quality of the pictures and the order which they are in, i.e no order at all really!! It takes ages to upload them so I have to compress them really small which means the quality is not very good but it gives you an idea! And whats more you get to look forward to looking through all of my pictures when I return.... So far this amounts to over 200 pictures in just over two weeks, just imagine how many I can take in the next 6 months!!! I bet you all can't wait!
Anyway, what have I been doing... Well Thursday I went to the station and read the news as normal and then went to the post office to post something home, hopefully it will arrive before I do but who knows!! In the evening a few of us went round to one of the volunteers houses to watch Notting Hill and we were in the middle of it when it started pouring down with rain and all the electricity went off! Luckily everyone here always has a torch at the ready as they're so used to it. What is really funny here is that EVERYTHING stops when the rain comes so when we left the girls' house it was like a ghost town!!
Friday I went to the station and then came back and did my washing which took over an hour - it's a bucket job which is the most annoying thing and I'm sure my whites aren't going to remain that way for very long with the lack of hot water! You would be very proud of me though Nan!
Saturday I went with two friends to cover a programme for the radio, there are a couple of pictures of it on here. There was a dance performed by the scholl for the deaf which my friend Rosie volunteers at. It was amazing as they do everythign by the drum beat but they obviously can't hear the drum beat so I think they do it through feeling the vibration, it's very clever. In the evenign I went to the station to do a programme called 'Luv Reasons' which is all about relationships etc. It was really good as it was all in English which makes a change and was a iscussion programme so they were really interested to hear my views, this weeks topic was the growing promiscuity within Ghana's youth. Most of which is the West's fault...! It was realy good but I'm not sure how often I'll get to go as it's on the weekend when I'll probably be doing lots of travelling etc and it didn't finish until half 10 which made getting a taxi home very hard. Don't worry though parent, the people from the station made sure I got home ok!!
Sunday I resisted the temptation to go to church and instead went to town to met some of the other girls and go to the beach. On the way I got stuck in terrential rain, it absolutely poured down for about half an hour so I got soaked and then it cleared within about ten minutes and we had brilliant sunshine so we carried on an went to Anomabo beach which was really really nice. I took Matt there for the day, which will make absolutely no sense to most of you but Dad knows what I mean! Again we had a nightmare getting home but this time it was 4pm! There are about a million tro's (small minibuses) and taxi's in the centre of town, neither of which would pass a British MOT, but when you go anywhere else it's a ngihtmare trying to get back and there aren't really many set routes for public transport and they don't have any set times so it's all pot luck really!
When we got back we had rice balls and this palm oil soup which tastes like watered down peanut butter, it is DISGUSTING and it looks like we have this every Sunday!! Praise the lord! Maybe it's my punishment for not going to church... I really really miss the food at home, the food here is ok but it's all the same really, rice, chicken and a tomato sauce, yam, plantain and I'm bored already! We all spend quite a lot of time talking about what foods we miss, quite like our first and second years of uni Kat!! Lol!! There is one dish I really like which is called Red Red and has beans (no, not Heinz!) in a sauce and you have it with fried plantain chips which are quite like noraml chips. The problem is my stomach doesn't like it too much but I'm holding out hope that it will get used to it!!
Anyway this was going to be a short journal but once again I've managed to rattle on!!! Keep the messages coming and I hope to get back to some of you personally in the next week or so when I get a chance! x
