Now this time I will attempt to actually write a short journal entry, here goes... I can't really remember what I did between my last journal entry and this weekend so I'll just fill you in on the weekend! My weekend was absolutely AMAZING! 15 of us went to Green Turtle Lodge which is an eco lodge (absolutely foul smelling self-composting toilet and they recycle the shower water for the plants) about 2 and a half hours from here near a place called Akwidaa. We got there on Friday at about 6 after a long tro journey as you'll see from the picture (although this was taken at the beginning when we were all awake and happy!)
We then ordered dinner and went to see our rooms etc which were really nice and clean and were clay huts so all very African, even had our own lizard as a house guest, plus a cockroach but that didn't stay for long. Played pool and just generally chilled until dinner arrived at 9.30, it was absolutely mind blowing - swordfish and mango stir fry, I got SO excited! Definitely the best meal I've had since arriving and not typically Ghanaian so think may have to go to Green Turtle just for that!
Saturday we chilled on the beach then swam, played football and then volleyball so by dinnertime I was well ready for a beer! I had sausage and mash which wasn't quite the same as at home but was still v.good. We played drinking games, lemonade of course Nan, and then played Uno and pool.
Sunday Jess, Veronica and I went for a wander along the beach but unfortunately did not see any turtles even though Veronica did do a very nice turtle dance to try and entice them, I guess you had to be there! The whole weekend was fantastic and wait for it... cost about 20 pounds in English money, it's unbelievable how cheap stuff is here. That was my travel there and back, food all weekend (which took ages to arrive every time but was SO worth it), accommodation for two nights and drinks whilst there!!!
We got back about 6 on Sunday evening after 3 tro rides and then Rosie and I went to Elmina to see the 200th anniv of abolition of slavery but it was pretty much over.
Yesterday I went to the radio and today I went to Abura Literacy School as you will see from the pics it was really really good, I'll tell you more about it in my next journal as time is running out....
Much love as always xx
