I know, don't fall off your chair but I am doing another journal entry, just one day after the last! I thought it was about time that I got up to date, especially as I am off beach hopping on Thursday for two weeks, it's a hard life! I came back from travelling on Thursday evening and met the two new girls Georgie and Annie who are now in my house and are really nice. We then went straight out with everyone which was really good as everyone gave me such a lovely welcome back, telling me how much they'd missed me - works wonders on the ego lol! But seriously my friends here are amazing, it's weird how quickly you get close to people but then I guess we do spend SO much time together and the obruni's have to stick together!Â
Friday I went back to work and everyone was really surprised to see me as I wasnt supposed to be back until Monday, again they gave me such a nice welcome back, asking about my trip and my experiences. Friday afternoon involved meetign Veronica and Georgie and frequenting our favourite afternoon spot - Castle Restaurant! We love this place as it's in town right on the beach and has such nice views over the beach and sea, plus they sell food and beer - our lives seem to evolve around food at the moment! They do the best Red Red, I'm having it on Wednesday as my last meal in Cape Coast!  Friday night we went to Oasis which is where we quite often go to dance to our favourite Ghanaian tunes of which there are many!
Saturday we went to Anomabu Beach which is one of our favourite places to go to sunbathe and swim - Georgie and Kate don't come out of the water! I've just realised that I seem to have a lot of favourite places here, it's SO easy though! Saturday eveing Veronica stayed over at my house and we just chilled which was the first night in about 8 weeks that we haven't gone out! Sunday we had a lot of fun with Nana Kwame in the morning who was being extra specially cute, he is SO aorable sometimes and other times he's a monster, like 5am when he's running around the house screaming and waking up all the obruni's! Then Sunday Veronica and I went to Coco Grove once again to sunbathe, I know I know beaching all the time, but it was our last weekend in Cape Coast and the last time we would get chance to go. In the evening we went back to Oasis for some more dancing - rather hot and sweaty dancing may I add! It was really sad because it was the last time I will go there with two of the girls, Georgie and Kate boo!!!Â
Monday I went to the radio and then went shopping for food with Anna ready for our party in the evening. It was SO funny, we got our family to give us a list of all the things we needed so they could make Ghanaian food for all the volunteers and themselves. We went to the market which was SO funny as they obviously don't see white poeple very often buying plantains, rice sacks and HUGE yams! We bought loads of food and some drinks for the evening and then had the lovely task of carrying it all home - poor Anna, I thought her arms where going to drop off. Our family where amazing and cooked all the food for us so we ended up with Kelewele (spicy fried plantain) yam balls (self descriptive but so amazing) yam chips, fried rice (with vegetables) and jollof rice (red tomato rice) everything was SO good ad al the volunteers loved it! Our family went all out, they cleared one of the rooms for us and got loads of chairs, a big stereo and all the above food! They won't even let us clean up after, don't panic Mum I did try to and I bought them a big box of chocolates the next day to say thanks!! All the volunteers had such a nice time as did Anna, Georgie, Kate, Katie and Amanda who's last night it was.Â
Tuesday I had to say goodbye to the 5 people who were leaving which was really sad as one was Anna my room mate and two of the others I was really good friends with. I cried of course but thats standard for me!!  As a rescue remedy I went to New Life Orphanage to take the children swimming with Veronica which as always was lots of fun. It was cloudy so the children were really cold and Jemima spent the whole time hugging me to keep warm - very sweet!Â
Wednesday I went to ATL as normal and then to town for some yummy yam balls and pineapple - amazing. In the evening Veronica and I, armed with snappy nuts and malt biscuits, stayed at New Life overnight again which was fab. We played with the children and watched the football with them - a must for every Ghanaian even the children. In the morning we got up and made bead necklaces with them from beads V had taken with her, they were so sweet and they are so appreciative of anythign you give them. We left at midday and headed for Anomabu as it was lights off at the radio so no news for me. Â
Friday I went to the station as usual and then left early so that Veronica and I could go to the hills which is another region in Ghana where volunteers are based. It's about 1 hour north of Accra, the capital. We had such a lovely tie there, wehen we arrived Emmanuel, the co-ordinator for the hills and the guy we were staying with, was SO nice he gave us drinks and then arrived with two big plates of dinner for us! We really didn't expect anything at all except somewhere to stay but he was great. That evenign we met up with some of the girls from the hills, in particular the girl I flew to Ghana with, Charlie which was really nice.Â
Saturday we got up early and went to the bead factory where you can see how they make the beads and then to this MASSIVE bead arket - heaven! Of course we bought loads but did manage to save some of our money for a trip to the wood market where we bought a load more! I would go into detail but some of you may get them as presents so I better not! Saturday afternoon we went to Accra where V and I ate from a chop bar like true Ghanaians and then met Jess and Veronica's sister from the airport. Of course we stayed over in classy Club 1000 which is in one of the pictures from before, such a lovely place!! Sunday we got up and went for a MASSIVE breakfast at Paloma hotel, so good!! Then we got back on a tro, such a lovely way to travel, and came back to Cape Coast.
This morning there was lights off at the radio station so I went to the school that Will works at and just assumed I would be watching... oh no, I taught a classs of my own! There were only 3 pupils aged 7-8 but was quite funny, talk about being thrown in at the deep end! Firstly we did maths, followed by English grammar and then ended with a spelling list ready for a test tomorrow which I unfortunately won't be there for. It was actually a lot of fun but very challenging... uh oh South Africa and 3 months of teaching here I come! On that note I shall leave you as I contemplate my teaching skills...  Big fat hugs xx
