Yet another lovely stopover with lovely people, on the sheep farm.
We woke at 6.30 to see seven hot-air balloons from our bedroom window, Jake was still in love with their guard dog but it was time to leave after a quick porridge, egg breakfast and a chat at breakfast with two removals drivers who were moving a back surgeon from Warrington to Glasgow.
The run to Gretna was along the old A74 which has been downgraded to a B road now that the M74 is in place. With a slight tail wind we made good time and the distance was only 68 miles instead of 66, which by our recent results was great.
We arrived at Gretna Green by 4pm and had the luxury of a sleep before going to dinner. Again the B&B people were lovely so we got the lady of the house to pose with us whilst her husband (with dislocated knee) took the photo above.
I know we keep saying how lovely all the B&B people have been but it is oh so true, we've been very lucky.
After a very average dinner in the huge Gretna Hall hotel dining room with two coach-loads of older citizens (unfortunately I asked two old ladies that had walking sticks if they were off to play a game of hockey, they didn't seem to see the funny side of it....). So a bland dinner and a glass of red vinegar for Carine and then off to bed by 9 pm. At least the hotel was only 150 yards from our B&B, and the day's ride was completely dry, even a bit of sunshine.
Both of us are getting very tired now, a night's sleep isn't refilling the tanks much at all, so it's jelly-legs all the way at the moment.
More later
