Last night we had dinner with Shelley Fairy at our hotel so treated ourselves to a bottle of bubbles. It was really lovely to see her so happy and positive.
Day 11 started with a nice ride around the town trying to find the right road on to our route. After about 10miles we came across some road closed barriers which had obviously been there for some time, but undaunted, we went around them to stay on the DeLoite route. After about 200 metres of climbing we came to a section of the roadway where half the carriageway had slipped down 2 or 3 feet which obviously was why the road was closed. We pushed on to the top and passed the second set of barriers.
Just before we got to the Monmouth bridge Martin Day was coming in the opposite direction to come and find us. We crossed the bridge back into England and after a coffee we all rode together for about 20 miles with a lunch break in between.
Martin then headed back to Bristol and we continued to what turned out to be horrible, s***, crap weather, lovely! The worse bit was the climb up to Bath racecourse at Landsdown, way over a mile of narrow two-way traffic with it absolutely tipping it down. That was the last big climb of the day.
Our B&B is in a rather splendid large Victorian house, Bloomfield House, run by a lovely lady who has kindly contributed to our fundraising. We're currently in the room waiting for Martin to get through the traffic to go out to dinner with friends.
