Day 14 - Spent the day mostly sleeping and eating wonderful food. Jake didn't seem to mind staying most of the day in the room or under the pub dining table. Great couple running the pub, really looked after us beautifully with the food being equally as good as The Sportsman.
Day 15 - Awoke to find a heavily laden breakfast tray outside our room which included 2 cans of red bull! Bless you The Rock Inn. What service!
An early start meant that we were on the road by 07:00 stopping for breakfast in Tiverton around 09:00 in a rather sweet cafe playing 1930/40s music. Martin made friends with a guy called Glen (pictured), who was glugging on a can of what looked like Tennents Extra and puffing on cigarettes. He was a big friendly, smiling tramp-like man who had a good heart and liked to get rather trashed. He told Martin that we were lightweights to sleep in B&Bs and not under the stars. He said we looked awesome as we set off but I rather think he was having us on.
The rest of the day consisted of a series of hills, some serious climbs (well, at least that's what they felt like today), a stop at a Co-op for supplies after what seemed like miles of wilderness with not a shop or pub in sight, a quick cup of tea in a garden centre and picking up some treats for Jake (which included 2 crunchy-dry chicken feet which were devoured with much gusto), a surprisingly good lunch in Okehampton and 6 miles more to our B&B in Bridestow. The total mileage for the day being 56 instead of 64 miles! We were so pleased, as always, to get to our B&B especially as a BATH awaited us on arrival. Another great room and B&B owners, everyone has been so kind to us.
Tonight, Martin Apples is coming to meet us for dinner in the local pub down the road. Hope we can stay awake for him.
Lots of love to you all xx
