Day 13, unlucky for some but not for Jake as last night at dinner, in our lovely gastro pub B&B, we decided to rest for a day before continuing our journey, so he gets to walk and play in the woods today. Martin's bum, Martin's legs Martin's back, Martin's knees and Martin's hip are all crying "enough already"! He was too tired to eat last night but I insisted and forced him to eat before going up to bed.
Martin made a mistake at setting up our days at 65 miles plus (despite my questioning this decision) because in training we easily averaged 12 miles per hour. In reality it is proved that 10 mph is more of a realistic figure and as we've tired, even down to 9 or 8 mph at times; the granny gear has had a lot of use.
We got here at 18:15 last night after leaving yesterday morning at 07:30, only stopping for drinks and food and trying not to waste time during those stops. Quite frankly we needed to have added a rest or easier days into our itinerary and possibly 55+ not 65+ per day. In setting it up to be so tough it has taken a lot of the pleasure out of it, so today is for rest, recuperation and an easy walk with flip flops (that's the heaviest shoes Martin would let me bring other than my bike shoes) in the woods with Jake.
We have a really lovely room, great shower and a huge big comfy bed. Another day couldn't be resisted especially, luckily, as the landlady still had our room available. Martin is disappointed to have a stop over but in reality when he is training for an event these days he has to train 2 days on 1 day off to keep healthy.
We possibly will put up another blog entry tonight with more of the day's highlights.
Love to you all xx
