Struggled to get out of bed this morning, it was a very comfy bed so it was hard not to roll over and go back to sleep, but we had ordered breakfast for 7.30, as usual, which I think was a bit earlier than our hosts were used to, so up we got and by 8.20 we were on the road and soon over the border into England, but it was hard, really, really hard. My legs had nothing in them.
We made a couple of stops for coffee, more Assoss Chamois cream (you bikies know where it goes) plus a call in to Halfords for a change of saddle for me and a gel cover for Carine's. Ahh, so much better.
By 1pm we were in Penrith and I was finished, struggling to keep us in a straight line so Mr Virgin helped us to a 20 minute blast on a roller-coaster of a train ride, leaving us an 8 mile ride to The Kings Arms in Burton Kendal. A bit of a cop-out but there's tomorrow to think about.
Our room is on the 3rd floor. Carrying our panniers upstairs felt like climbing the Eiger. Very helpful, friendly landlord who even put the tandem away for us when we were showering and settling in before dinner. Hoping that a good rest will restore us for our onward journey to Warrington.
We are now, finally, up to date with this blog and it should all be in the right order from here on (hopefully).
