First on the agenda this morning was a zodiac cruise, in and around all the icebergs - is like being in natures art gallery filled with massive ice sculptures. Each one is different, and the colour variations through them, the more air bubbles trapped within the ice the more intense the blue - the blue glows from within the crevices and holes and actually looks like the iceberg is lit up from inside. Then there is the aquamarine waters surrounding the iceberg from the ice shelf under the water.
As we cruising around we come across some crab eater seals lazing on the icebergs - they can be quite tetchy. Concern being that we could be orcas circling wanting to eat them I guess.
Then we do a landing and this Island is filled with Adelie penguins, they look like toys as they have funny little button eyes. Watching a group of adult and young penguins, there was also a huge petrel sitting watching them - obviously trying to decide which one was the most delicious looking. He made a couple of attempts to snatch one but all the penguins huddled together with the adults on the outside pecking at him - story has a happy ending for the penguins, the petrel was unsuccessful and moved on.
There were however quite a few penguin carcasses laying about in the snow, so obviously a fertile feeding ground for carnivorous birds.
