Activity: J&J: Toasting with bubbles and staying dry in the annexe while 40-60km/hr winds rage outside. A&E: sleeping soundly.
Well, hopefully this is the view from our bedroom window that we'll wake up to in the morning. God blessed us with a reprieve in the weather whilst we were setting up (and a chance to take this photo from our window). Presently, the wind is raging outside but thanks to Jonathan's myriad of adjustments to the annexe we are still safe and dry.
As we sit here drinking cheap champagne (too tired to drink the good stuff) and toasting to our adventures, I can't help wondering how my luxury-loving husband and I became campers. We're never even backpacked together, having both done our separate travels before we married. And after that, vacations at luxury resorts - using annual leave - were far too tempting.
But then it occurs to me that - like many of life's great decisions - our decision to go on this adventure was made in a split decision. Will you marry me? Yes! Do you want to have kids? Yes! In April last year, we rented a unit at the beach (having postponed our trip to China upon finding out I was pregnant). There we discovered first-hand the hassle of packing to travel with kids. Thereafter, following in mt parents' footsteps, and buying a camper trailer to use on future holidays seemed far more practical. Soon we proudly had a new trailer sitting in the driveway on its new concrete bed (thanks to many hours of hard work to pay for it in-between). The plan was to take a good 2-3 weeks this January to make us of it. At some point (perhaps after a teeny drink - I was pregnant after all) it occurred to me that I would be on maternity leave for at least 6 months. The next thing you know it, Jonathan has found a tenant for the house; and a departure date has been set. And here we are, drinking cheap champagne... and camping!
