holy crapballs. i havent updated this in a long time, it seems like when people first start keeping travel blogs they add entries everyday, then trail off. im not letting that happen. so lets seeee. i havent updated this since before coachella. wow, lots have happened.
ill start with coachella, which EFFING RULED. i met danny and kerri which was more than awesome. definitely good to see a couple of familiar faces. i do miss everyone from home, and for real, hopefully someone will visit me before i leave. more on that later. andrew peters, im especially talking to you considering the email you sent me the other day. i dont think coming over here should be a problem. anyway. notables at coachella were obviously prince, my morning jacket, hot chip, simeon mobile disco, fatboy slim, and the raconteurs. we camped the whole weekend which was freaking sweet. danny of course bought a 500000000 cubic foot tent which created a shadow over mine (kinda nice actually). no celebrities seen there unfortunately (apparently hasselhoff was there, which wouldve proved to be monumental considering danny and mine's obsession with his music), however at starbucks one morning steven tyler walked in pissed off at his assistant. he looks exactly what he looks like on tv, like a old woman with way too much plastic surgery. cool though. danny of course got some pictures. zeona got a waterfall nosebleed from the "dry air from the desert." that almost made me miss my morning jacket but i left the first aid tent to see it (whoops!). after all was said and done, we all parted ways at the airport. i got to drive around LA before our flight and saw the roxy, whiskey a go-go, and the chinese theatre. pretty cool but lame at the same time. the weekend went by wayyy to fast. i cant wait for coachella 09.
so if you look at the newest 2 albums they tell the story of what ive been up to lately. ill start with work and the things that arent pictured. the hotel sucks. enough said. i finally landed my goal job as a hiking guide. i take people on hikes, feed them, drive around, and talk. so so sweet. i lead my first solo hike on wednesday and got tipped nice. not bad for 4 hours of work. i quit the front desk job after 2 days of dealing with retarded guests. im not cut out for the hotel biz. making a living here is still proving to be a challenge. i could get a 9-5, but id be breaking personal rules and wont for the life of me do it. im in a super travel mode lately and would like to share my new hopeful adventure. antarctica is a place ive always wanted to visit. alot of people think its just a slab of ice, but its much more. ive always been intrigued by that place. traveling there on personal funding is expensive as balls so thats out. to cut to the chase, i found work opportunities down there supporting the scientists that are there for long term. basically id be doing stupid work like waiting on scientists or working as a janitor, but id be in antarcitca. room, board, travel expenses, everything is comped. you also get paid on top of it. for 4 months, workers average about $6000 pocketed moola. granted thats only $18000 a year, but youre not spending a dime. ill take that if i get to see a place on earth not too many people do. the opportunity starts in october so im crossing my fingers. im torn because i love maui but also want to take advantage of seeing antarctica. i just keep telling myself maui and my scooter will be waiting for me when i get back.
my scooter lost one of its mirrors. i hypothesize that my landlord knocked it over with her car, and in the process ripped off a side mirror. i still havent gotten it inspected or registered. i also failed the motorcycle test again. did i go to college? at some point ill post pictures of the black beauty.
post coachella i got to see the only goat farm on maui, the surfing goat dairy farm. cool place. cool goats. later we went upcountry and wine tasted. we made a stop through paia and had the best fish of life. also the best sunset yet on maui. about a week ago the active group joined together for a spontaneous hike in iao valley. we hopped a fence and followed a few trails up the mountain ridge. after about 45 minutes, we stumbled upon a meadow filled with banana trees, koa, berry plants, and ti plants. so cool. we journeyed back down the side of the ridge where it was super steep until we found a sweet stream channel where we all lounged on the rocks in the sun and swam around. definitely one of the coolest hikes yet. tomorrow active group is going on my most anticipated hike, the waihe'e ridge hike. im so freaking excited.
i finally had my first couchsurfer! her name was lara and was from germany. she has been studying on oahu for a while and wanted to come to maui before she headed back to germany. if youre not familiar with couchsurfing.com, check it out. we hung out, went hiking and snorkeling, and ate wheat squares with papaya for breakfast. she was pretty awesome. i cant wait for more couchsurfers.
hmm what else. if you havent noticed already i shaved my head? i miss shagginess. if you want to visit this year, this summer is the time. if antarctica pulls through, the summer months are the last ones youll be able to catch me on maui. so hurry up! i saw ironman and indiana jones. ironman was pretty cool, not enough ironman. ironman was gold compared to indy. i mean, really. the action, great. the beginning and ends? crap. the whole subject of the movie was way to scifi and retarded. does anyone agree? definitely not meant for indiana jones. i cant remember anything else i forgot to add. that sentence didnt make sense. im going to bed.
