The events that have led up to this moment have been, well, interesting. It all began in November, 2007 when my sister and I decided to impose on my parents' 30th wedding anniversary and surprise them in Hawaii. While all my life I knew I would end up there, this set it in stone. This trip I also agreed to take a work trip to El Paso, TX. The only personal encounter I've heard of was from Mr. Ben Grannan, whom I will paraphrase: "The worst place in America, Hell, etc." The only reason I agreed to El Paso was because I was out of the office. In the words of Peter Gibbons, "human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day." Despite dealing with idiots on a daily basis, boring work, and the fact we were in El Paso, that city seemed to offer at least a couple of positive things: road trips, Mexico, and Andrew Worley, all of which were not at all related to El Paso. I guess the reason I bring that armpit of America up is because I knew then when I returned back to Northern Virginia for office work, it was time to begin my adventure.
February 8th was my long overdue last day at an engineering firm, one of which I will not name. That last week of work was truly interesting. With our house lease ending on January 1st, I was a couchsurfer until that last day. One particular night just showed how homeless I really was. ATTENTION: for all of you who already know this story, please scroll down to the following paragraph. After a late night of drinking on I believe a Tuesday night, for some reason my brain told me I had no where to sleep. Besides the fact that Danny, Janna, Andrew, Voit, Mark & Joe, Alex, Steve, and Ellen all had places to stay at, I made the decision to take a cab to my car and bunk up there. Long story short, after hours of sleeping in front of my old house, in the back yard, and in the parking garage at work, and brushing my teeth in the parking lot, I decided it was kind of fun. Having no strings and no plan definitely made things interesting. I guess this is just a preview of what's to come. YES.
So I leave tomorrow. Today I spent my time sleeping in, taking a long walk around DC, getting a new baseball cap, and making sure this was a good idea. It's finally starting to set in, and to much consideration, I feel incredible. With that, aloha until tomorrow!
