Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
We boarded our plane to Bangkok very early in the morning, another good flight with every possible cd we could ever want to listen to on our handsets, we could even make our own in-flight compilation! Our transfer was fun, we had a huge minibus which gave us a good view of the lovely modern city! We actually felt like we were in civilisation again! Our hotel was lovely, right on a river and a 5 minute walk from the main backpacking street, Kao San Road. We spent the day getting over our jetlag and sleeping, before going out in the evening for a gorgeous meal sat outside on the street, lit by fairy light. We settled down with some fruity cocktails to cool us in the muggy humid heat, Liv ate a fried chicken, garlic, black pepper, chilli and sticky rice meal, while Hannah had pad toi with pork, vegetables and a black bean sauce. We also had banana and chocolate pancakes from a street seller for a few pence, and saw more street sellers with exotic foods like cockroaches, maggots and scorpions which we avoided for the moment! The streets were absolutely buzzing, lots of lights, music and filled with shopping and other travellers. There was fresh food being cooked all the way along the street, and cool bars and pubs playing loud music, a really good introduction after the less social evenings in India. On the way home we stopped at a shell petrol station which had been taken over by a VW camper van/portable bar. They lit up the petrol pumps with fairy lights and plants and played really old-skool chilled out music. It was filled with low bamboo benches with candles, which we sat cross-legged on and drank pink kamikaze cocktails from plastic bottles!
