Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
This morning we met everyone from our tour group, a really nice group of people. Afterwards we took the river boat to the skytrain station which took us right through the city centre (Siam Square), a brilliant view up with the skyscrapers! It really made us realise what a tropical climate Thailand has, parks break up the bustle of the city and banana and palm trees stand in between the buildings. We took the train right to Chat Chu Chak market, a massive built-up weekend market selling everything you could ever imagine. We spent hours browsing through the little walkways filled with clothes, shoes, books, furniture, cds, flowers, pets (that's right puppies, hedgehogs, sloths, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, reptiles, chicks, chinchillas, mice, birds and tarantulas......) and much more. We picked up some tum yum soup from a street vendor, a delicious watery soup with chicken, beansprouts, noodles and vegetables. We unfortunately had to rush back to a meeting in the hotel with our tour leader, after which we arranged to meet 3 of our group to head out to Chinatown for the New Year celebrations. It was an amazing experience, the street was so alive with people and red decorations of lanterns and banners everywhere. There were street performers of dragons which breathed fire and set off fireworks, and a man swung up a pole to slay the dragon with a burning stick. The music was brilliant and little dragons danced along the streets to the drums. We had a delicious chinese meal of lemon chick, egg fried rice and spare ribs, before getting a taxi back through the brightly lit streets of Bangkok.
