After a huge breakfast that neither of us could finish we loaded up the car and hit the road again.
It's been a gorgeous day, mild temps and a clear blue sky. We opted for the scenic route, dodging the highway that would've gotten us to Niagara in 4.5 hours instead sticking to the side of Lake Ontario. We travelled through a lot of towns, mostly smaller but also Kingston; a med sized city.
At one point we pretty much ran out of road coming to a ferry crossing from Andolphustown to Glendora, it was a quick crossing and best of all, free :-)
We passed some interesting places; a fantasy castle style building turned out to be Collins Bay prison! A flock of geese were happily grazing in front of it. There was an eye sore of a place on the shore opposite Glendora, some sort of huge industrial complex which really marred the otherwise pristine beauty of the lake.
We skirted Toronto which had an awesome road system, 8 lanes each way 4 of which were express lanes with only a few ons and offs. Despite it being peak hour when we were using it there were few hold ups with us zipping along in first the express lane then the HOV (T2). The outskirts of Toronto is very industrial, a lot of very ugly installations including a huge coal power station at Burlington, not a good look.
We got to Niagara about 5pm and after checking into our hotel went off and explored the falls. It's way more commercialised than I remember from nearly 30 years ago when I was last here (no surprises there I guess lol) but the falls are still amazing. We went behind the falls and onto a platform so close we needed the supplied rain cape or we would've been soaked from the mist the falls create.
Walking back to our hotel to change for dinner we found the IMax theatre which listed the last Star Trek movie as playing, we checked and found it was on at 9pm. Decision time, shower and either go to dinner or the movie. The movie won :-)
On the huge IMax screen it was pretty awesome. It finished a little after 11 so not too many sensible dinner choices available then so off to Wendy's it was.
Now, the next round of decisions involve where we are off to tomorrow........
