We got up a bit earlier than usual today, packed up and were ready to catch the ferry to Vancouver. I did the last of the clean up after breakfast while Pete took the first load up to the car.
Shortly after he returned with the load and the news that our car had been broken into. Lots was taken and as time went by we kept recalling other things that were in the car :-(
We called the RCMP who came and took a report but there was little hope we'd see anything again.
I rang round to try and get the window replaced but nobody on the island had the right windows in stock. One place very kindly offered to vac out all the broken glass and do a temp fix on the passenger window and we took them up in that. While they did their thing we walked to the local shops and tried to replace the GPS, we aren't going too far without that little helper :-( there weren't any there but I did manage to see a Dr and get a script filled for the meds they helped themselves to, hope they take them and it makes them very ill as their sugars crash.
We tried Target and replaced all we needed by way of a GPS, the pad for it and a charger extension that means we can charge 5 things as we drive along.
I called a few glass places in Vancouver, explained our situation etc and in general the answer was, sorry to hear that but we shut at 4pm, open again on Monday, we can do it then. We don't want to park the car on the street (there's no parking lot) with nothing to protect it other than a temp plastic window.
One place was awesome, they'd stay open til we got there, garage the car for the weekend and fix it first thing on Monday, ready to collect Monday at 11am. We have to be at the port for the cruise by 2pm so that should give us plenty of time. To top off their helpfulness they're giving us a loaner til we collect our rental back.
We caught a much later than planned ferry and didn't get into Vancouver til nearly 6pm. The traffic was very heavy and slow moving, not sure what was on but it sucked. Vancouver looks very green, lots of trees. The area our accommodation is in appears to be a student area, lots of young people walking and cycling around. We dropped our gear at the accommodation for the next two nights and set off to the auto glass shop thirty minutes drive away. They couldn't have been nicer nor more helpful & slightly restored our belief in people :-)
We drove back to our accommodation in the nifty VW beetle loaner and got properly settled in. We just didn't feel like doing anything much so had dinner and blobbed out in front of the telly for the night - right ravers aren't we?
To top off an excellent (not) day our getting in so late meant we couldn't catch up with Tanya as she's busy tonight and tomorrow :-( ah well a local guide would've been lovely but we will work it out same as we always do.

Ann I really hope they try and get 'high' on your medication. Serves them right to get low sugars and not know what they took. More likely to sell them on to some other poor sucker
