Sailing day, Monday Sept 22nd
It was an early start, breakfast, pack and head off to collect the car. It was all done and set to go so we went back to our unit to collect our gear and headed to Tanya's. Her day had turned to crap when she took the kids to school and got told to come back in the afternoon so she was a little bit scattered (her words lol) but rallied and had us on our way in no time.
The queue to get through immigration was crazy, the US officers went through all the usual stuff with everyone, finger prints, photos etc and it dragged. We were in line with some other Aussies so we chatted and shared travel stories.
Once on board we made our way to the buffet and grabbed some overdue lunch. We only had 15 minutes before we had to go to the safety, lifeboat muster. It was actually ok, our station chief was a bit of a hoot.
We keep running out of boat lol exploring we are constantly aware of how much smaller this is than the one we were on last year.
As we pulled out of port we left all the smaller boats bobbing in our wake. We unpacked and settled in. The view from our balcony was gorgeous, the sea perfectly flat.
Dinner was different to last year, we had a table alone by a big window which was nice. They do it differently on NCL, you decide when and where to eat and it's different every night, no static table mates like last year. The food was pretty good. There was a funny moment for us when from the next room we could hear someone having happy birthday sung to them; as one Pete and I went, "Mr Robert!" and laughed. All the others dining looked and wondered what we were on about, we thought it was pretty funny. Hi there Robert & Mary! Lol
We went through a fog bank about 11pm and the ships horn was blowing. For a time our view from the balcony was completely fog, nothing else. A bit later it dropped and we were above it, very cool. A little after midnight we were peering out into the darkness and something jumped in the water twice, a dolphin we think.
We went and checked out the late dining options, one deck up and the other end of the boat as Pete needed a snack. The sports bar looks the goods for midnight snacks :-)
The ship seemed strangely empty, at 11.30 PM when we went wandering there was nobody about, not in the bars (most of which were closed) or anywhere. It's understandable around the pool area cos it's cold but elsewhere was odd.
