Attempting to pick up where I left off.....During the second day of orientation we were taken to the black market to exchange money....at least that's what it seemed like....they took us to this market and we had to follow a man into a back room with little to no lighting....I guess the good thing is we got a great rate haha......After that we got in a Matatu and headed to Ngong which is the village we will live and work in. We met our host mom Grace. She is a very nice woman! She lives in the house with her son Brian and husband Stanley. It was different coming from our first host mom to this one....you can tell there is a vast difference in income between the two. Kristin and I however were very excited to see that Grace has a flush toilet and electricity. She also has running water but no hot water which means bucket baths :)
This morning was my first bucket bath ever! It was interesting but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Kristin on the other hand didn't listen to Graces instructions about adding cold water to the boiling hot water for her bath....after for came back to our room she said "yeah I didn't have near enough water" HAHA good times!
This morning we got up and went to church with Grace. She attends a Presbyterian church about a 30-40 minute walk from the house. The church was great, they spoke in English which was nice :) It was a very evangelical church. They ask for all new visitors to stand we everyone obviously looking at Kristin and I.
So far everything has been a great experience.....different but great. I've met a lot of people who have next to nothing but are extremely thankful for what they do have. It's amazing how different life is here in Kenya.
Oh and I had to kill 5 spiders last night for Kristin before she would go to bed...Even after that I don't think she slept very well :)
