This past weekend has been great! Kristin and I took an over night bus from Nairobi to Mombasa on Thursday night. We arrived in Mombasa at 5am Friday morning. The second we got out of the bus we were attacked by taxi drivers wanting to give us a lift. It was the last thing I wanted to deal with seeing as how I had just woke up from a 6 hour sleep. Kristin and I started bargining with the guys to see who would get us to our destination for the least amount of money. Kristin quickly pulled me a side and said she smelled alcohol on someone...nice huh? So after fighting about how much we were going to pay and attempting to decide which taxi driver was sober we went with James. It was about an hour drive to South Diani coast where we were staying. The driver pulled up to the ferry to pay and dropped his money out the window...nice me decided to open my car door and reach down and get it for him...only to realize I wasn't able to open my door from the inside. I thought that was weird so I looked over and as it turned out my door, Kristin's door and the passanger side front door were all missing the door handle's!!!! Yeah right at that moment I started freaking out!!!!!!!!! All I could think about was the bone collector (the movie) I wasn't sure what to do so I looked over at Kristin and told her...she didn't really seem that worried (later she told me it was b/c she knew we were driving the correct way) but I on the other had was planning what the heck I was going to do if something happened....Turned out he got us to our hotel safely...but I learned my lesson to look first for a door handle before I even get in the car. We got to our hotel at 6am and they let us check in right away! Only in Kenya does that happen....it was great! We stayed at a place called "Stilts" it was the most amazing "hotel" I've ever stayed in. Each room was it's own tree house with a deck....we each had our own mosquito net which helped a lot! There were not really that many bugs however there were a bunch of Monkeys!!!!!!! Monkeys every where! For some reason monkey's scare me....they are a little too human for me. Anyway we basically spent the weekend laying on the beach, reading, tasting the local bews at Foutry Thieves, Snorkeling, swimming in the Indian ocean and relaxing. Friday night we ate at Ali Barbours which was the coolest place I've ever ate at! It was a cave under ground about two stories down and had the ground level open so you could still eat under the night sky! The food was not the greatest but the atmosphere made up for it! Saturday night we met two guys from England that were staying at Stilts and hung out with them over a few quiet ones. It's was great talking with them b/c they have traveled a lot of places in Europe we are going to so we got some good information. The bus drive home was pretty good, thanks to some good sleep medication :) Over all it was a great trip, loved the coast and had a very relaxing time. Two more weeks in Ngong and then we leave for Ireland! :)
