As the sun rose over the jungle sprawl all five of us packed into a taxi and head towards Nauta to catch our boat. After thirteen minutes of provisioning in Nauta out guide Pedro and his help Juan steered us off into the direction of the jungle. The boat ride took about three hours which landed us in a small indigenous village named Buenos Aires. We ate lunch amongst the village people and we got to meet the school teacher. She was very friendly and passionate about her work. She spoke with us all about each of our travels and her own life in Buenos Aires. Two hours after we arrived in Buenos Aires we were off again to our first camp site. Tucked away off the same tributary that Buenos Aires was on was our camp site. It was just before dawn when we started setting up camp and the mosquitos smelt our presence. Pedro, Juan, and Lorenzo a guide we picked up in BA set up camp very quickly. Meanwhile we all got used to the idea of the relentless mosquitos as we all gather wood for the fire. After a quick dip in the water, which involved little sardines sucking your skin, we went out into the night on search of the creatures of the night. The three hour search amounted to a beautiful up close encounter with a tarantula and a far away glimpse of a rather large caiman. As we settled into our tents and mosquito nets the array of insect sounds lulled us to sleep.
