The day and a half spent surrounded by endless sand dunes was very remarkable. Huacahina is a little oasis town with lagoon surrounded by dunes that offer great sunsets and some adventure sports. The first night there Hugo and I hiked up to the nearest massive dune and watched the sunset which was phenomenal. After an hour or so we scampered down the dune and enjoyed dinner at the Desert Inn hostel. At dinner we meet a great guy from Ireland who had been staying in a small puervian surf town for three weeks riding the waves. We also ran into a French girl that we had briefly met in Lima as well as an Italian women who had transplanted to Sweden with her Swedish boyfriend. In all I was entertained by these amazing peoples travel stories, and we enjoyed the common conversations have amongst travelers about the ways of the world. The second day we jad booked an early morning trip out to Islas Balestas which is known as the poor mans Gallopogos. The islands are situated about twenty minutes off the coast of a quaint little ocean town called Paracas. The islands are famous for their sea life, which includes penguins and sea lions, but the most interesting aspect of the islands is the giant candelabra carved into the side of one island. It was supposedly done by the pre incas people of the area buy it's immense size and stellar detail make you wonder how. When we arrived back at the hostel we lounged around and booked our bus trip to Cuzco. After a thorough day of r&r and sight seeing Hugo and I said our goodbyes to the rolling sand dunes and hello to a 20hr bus ride to the land of the Incas.
