Well where to begin. I guess I'll start from day three in Peru. After walking around and acquainting myself with the Miraflores area the second day I decided to go site seeing. I began day three (11/9) by walking to the hucana ruins in Miraflores. It was very interesting and gave me some insight into the progression of lima's civilizations. It was somewhat sad to know that the site had been more or less treated as a garbage site until the 80's, but the excavations showed me that a strong effort to maintain the site was in effect. I also met a very interesting guy from china named Long. Long had moved from china to new York several years ago and spoke perfect English. After the tour of the ruins we decided to grab a bit and ventured onto the crazy streets of Lima. We ended up, unbeknown to me, at one of lima's top restaurants. Needless to say the food was amazing and beautifully presented. After a wonderful meal and time to get to know one another we decided to visit the museum Larco in the pueblo libre district. Our guide was great and the museum was loaded with amazing artifacts from pre inca and there after. After the visit we rushed back to our separate hostels but not before i invited him to dinner with some couch surfing friends I had contacted the previous day. Eventually we met up in front on a world wide checkpoint, McDonalds. The two CS'ers names were Connie and well I hate to say it but I forgot the other women's name. They took Long and I to a alley way restaurant that served wonderful traditional Peruvian food and offered great atmosphere with yelling futbol fans and all. From there we went for a walk down by the ocean side and continued to chat about life and our plans for the future. Crazy as it may sound the girl, whose name I forgot, has a grandmother who lives on Neetles island, wow. Her and i chatted all about downtown Jensen and the area. After many hours we said our goodbyes and parted ways. I hoped that this trip holds wonderful people like them in the future. The next day Long would return home and I decided to join a guy named Alex, whom I met at my hostel, on a trek to the jungle. To arrive at our final destination it required much patience and willingness to leave ones comfort zone. This trip, which was explained over beers, sounded just like they kind experience I feel I needed in order to satisfy my need to know. Know what I still am unsure but with each Journey I arrive closer to my destination. On Thursday (11/10) I had made up my mind that I was going on this trip with Alex to the jungle so now I needed to scramble to rearrange my itinerary and gather provision. The fourth day was consumed with mostly these preparations and for that reason little excitement was had. That evening Alex, Long, Daniel an Aussie from the hostel, and I went out to a small little restaurant and enjoyed cheap an good Peruvian food. Afterwards i exchanged contact info with Long and said goodbye. On day five (11/11) it was time for departure. Most everyone I had got to know at the hostel was also leaving so the goodbyes and safe travels were a plenty. Alex and I didn't take off from the bus station until 8 pm so we had plenty of time to check and recheck our bags and provision lists. The bus ride was my first long haul of many and overall I was impressed with the airplane like setting the service provided, with the exception of the 20hrs ETA. The bus took us through the snow capped Andes and then back down into the lush green spread of endless vegetation with a powerful river carving thru the entire way. The welcome to Pucallpa sign that I thought would never come was a welcoming into a world so uniquely different than the city we left behind. Motor taxis crowed the streets and the irritating ring of car horns had vanished in the night. They always ready taxi driver spotted us immediately as out of towner's and asked us where we needed to go. We had decided on the bus that the Happy Day Hostel would do so once the driver heard happy we were off. The hostel was nice because it offered more of a hotel like setting, which complimented the hellishly long bus ride. After a nice dinner at a local BBQ spot and a little provisioning we checked in for bed. I feel asleep wondering what the early morning boat trip had in store for me.
