Hi Everyone,
Doc B your comments cracked us up, think the whole internet cafe wondered what we were laughing at! Just to let everyone know we didn't change the layout of this page, but don't everyone you'll get used to it. Missing you all lots but hope you like the next installment:
Wednesday 7th March:
Today we moved to Sydney Central YHA, which is really nice - more like a hotel than a hostel although is a bit more expensive though!! We went to Peter Pan's and booked our Sydney Bridge Walk and the Blue Mountain day trip, also managed to escape the place without paying our internet charge! Came back and went to the supermarket to buy some weekly shopping, pushed the boat out and instead of oats we got pasta for dinner. So hungry when we got in went straight to cook the pasta, or should we say Em attempted to cook the pasta. We now realise you don't need a pint of milk to boiling pasta, but managed to get through it alive! Think Soph will be cooking next!! Had an early night to prepare ourselves for the bridge walk tommorrow!
Thursday 8th March:
We had quite a nice lie in this morning, but sharing a 6 bed dorm so got woken quite a few times with people coming in and out. Our bridge walk started at 2.05 and was going to last 3 and half hours. Somehow managed to get there on time even though we got lost on the way, hard we know as the harbour bridge is so small! So donning the space hoppers (cheap trainers from asda) we headed for the entrance.
Firstly we were taken through to a room with a very enthusiastic guide, who kept saying 'how are we all feeling today climbers?!' and we had to watch a safety film and fill out some forms. From here we went through to the changing rooms, where we changed into our all in one grey, zip at the back, space suits. Our space hoppers were not sufficient at covering our feet so just like in year 7 when you forgot your trainers we were given a pair from out the back, huge black platform trainers that would've made the spice girls proud! Then had to stand in a circle, and introduce ourselves and tell everyone why we were climbing the bridge! Em kicked off with the classic 'Hi i'm Emily.....'
We were then introduced to the guy that was taking us up the bridge, really nice and friendly. He helped us put the rest of our gear on, including: Harness, hat attacted to our suits, handkerchief attached to wrist, glasses chain attached to our back, head set, walkie talkie, and the belt that held it all together with a rain coat attached to it! This was all suprisingly light although felt as though we were about to go on Apollo 13! Took a few snaps as you can imagine we looked hilarious!
The climb itself was absolutely fantastic and would def recommend, twe had to climb over 1200 steps and some very small ladders, and a meshed walkway, called the catwalk although neither of us looking like Kate Moss! When we did reach the top the views were stunning, you could see for miles and we had a great view of the whole harbour and city. Could even see the Blue Mountains in the distance. The guy took 3 photos of us at the top with opera house and city in the background which we bought so will show you all when we're back. The guy pointed out to us landmarks of the city and how the bridge was built which was very interesting.
We were very tired by the top and were glad for a few mins rest and it was downhill from there! Def worth the money as one of the best experiences we have had so far.
After we'd taken off all our space gear we walked back into Circular Quay and went into a bar called Minus 5 degrees. Which is a bar you have to pay to get in but it's made entirely of ice, luckily Simon wasn't around (Soph's 18th ring any bells)!! We were given snow boots, snow coats and gloves and were only allowed in for thirty mins as it was so cold! Given a free cocktail on entry which was in an ice glass and it was delicious. We only stayed twenty mins though as reminded us of English weather a little too much and our noses were turning into rudolph's!
