Liverpool Feds v South Durham & Cestria
After the good news about our FAWSL2 bid the girls were back in Northern Combination title chasing mode against Liverpool Feds who had beaten title rivals Bradford City the previous week.
The girls started the first half into a fierce wind on a hard bobbly surface and concentrated on trying to play their football on the deck. The Feds girls were snapping at their heels, determined to gain an advantage with the hurricane behind them. Apart from a couple of goalmouth scrambles SD&C dealt with the Fed attacks comfortably and had a great couple of chances themselves, Hepple denied by a bobble after bursting past 2 defenders and Ness forcing a good save from the goalkeeper.
HT Liverpool Feds 0-0 SD&C
SD&C kicked off with the wind behind them and soon had Feds on the back foot with their slick passing although Feds, to their credit, never took a backward step and played themselves nicely out from the back a few times rather than just hoof it.
Eventually, however, the girls scored their first through Lauren Briggs in the 50th minute with a 40 yard lob that the keeper could only help into the net. The next goal soon followed in the 60th minute after Yasmine Hardy coolly slotted home. SD&C could relax a little with their two goal advantage but went looking for more. The third and final goal came through Rosie Young, on her comeback from injury, in the 73rd minute who burst clear and finished past the GK.
FT Liverpool Feds 0-3 SD&C
A good solid win from the young Durham side, finishing the game with 9 u17 outfield players!!
