Today the girls made the trip to Sheffield to take on tough opponents Sheffield Community Ladies in the league and try and keep our run going.
With one girl away on international duty, some re-shuffling of the side was necessary before kick off.
We kicked off into a strong breeze with Sheffield in our faces, giving us no time on the ball for us to get our passing game going. After 8 minutes Sheffield went ahead through a smart finish from their number 9 who was a thorn in the back fours side all game.
SDC soon gained a foothold in the game and started to get on top for the last 20 mins of the half, creating numerous half chances but only gaining the one goal from a Swales' corner resulting in Lauren Jordinson firing home from close range.
Sheffield 1-1 South Durham & Cestria
The second half kicked off with the wind in our favour and we started the way we finished the first half, dictating the game without really testing the goalkeeper behind the wall of red and white shirts apart from Swales hitting the crossbar. After this good spell from SDC came a bit of a lull in proceedings until Sheffield counter attacked down their left ending with a fine chip from their player.
We huffed and puffed for the final 20 minutes without ever really testing their gk disappointingly and, after pushing everyone forward in search of the equaliser, we got caught out by a Sheffield breakaway. The number 9 again finishing neatly in 93rd minute.
FT Sheffield 3-1 South Durham & Cestria
100% record gone but hopefully bounce back next week.
Well played Sheffield and good luck for the rest of season.
