South Durham & Cestria v Leeds City Vixens
Today saw us welcome Leeds City Vixens to Brinkburn hoping to get our season back on track after last weeks reverse. The team was back to full strength with one player back from international duty.
We started the game in blazing sunshine and soon had Vixens on the back foot, however this soon changed within 10 minutes with the visitors scoring 3 quick goals. The first coming from a corner with their player completely unmarked. The second came when our player literally chipped a through ball for Abbi Housecroft to slot home. At this point it felt like whatever Vixens did it would result in a goal and sure enough a shot rebounded off the crossbar straight to the Leeds player who prodded home although it has to be said that no SD&C players followed it in. Zoe Ness deservedly pulled one back before half time with a finish from the left curled into the far corner.

In the second half we laid siege to their goal and created numerous chances without taking one. We hit the bar, had one on ones, goal line clearances but still failed to make it count, partly due to some of our decision making and partly down to good defending from the mass of blue shirts in the Vixens box. It was pretty quiet up the other end apart from a Housecroft one on one with the keeper who came out smartly and smothered her effort. We did have a goal disallowed rightly for offside and the ball just wouldn't go in.

The disappointing thing about today is the opposition didn't have to work hard for their goals and its hard to recover after giving 3 quick goals away. A good smash n grab performance for the away team.
