We began our phonics workshop with the local community teachers this morning! As I watched them enter the classroom, and receive their book bags the two words that came to my mind were: excited and eager! It is such an exciting thing for our team to see so many of the local teachers embracing this concept that is new to them, trying so diligently to learn it for themselves, so that they can encourage and build up the next generation of leaders.
Be praying for wisdom for our team as we move forward, to know when to speed up or move slower. Be praying for each of these community teachers as well that they would continue in their success and encourage that same sense of success in their students.
We continue tomorrow with our workshop, and will have the honor of sharing a meal with several of them afterwards. We will be hosting a reading camp for area students for the next 3 days, where we will be able to share with these teachers some strategies they can use in their classrooms.
In the afternoon we went to the Betty Jonah Orphanage and Godfrey School located near the ABC campus. They are doing wonderful things at the Godfrey school, and the principal is so excited about the possibilities that phonics will bring to his students.
He is not the only one!
My thoughts and impressions of the orphanage will wait for another posting as the generator is soon to be turned off, and I need to get ready for bed first! God bless, and continue to pray for the growth of these people to truly create change within their country!
