A bright and early start today for a double adventure. First off was a trip to San Diego Zoo. Getting there was awesomely easy - a bus for six or so stops, about 10 mins or so and we were right outside the entrance. The zoo itself was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, seriously the best zoo I've ever seen and puts all other zoos to shame. It was massive with the animals having so much space its unbelievable! We didn't manage to visit the whole zoo, infact maybe only half of it, but I never wanted to leave. Highlights, there are soooo many but the best moment was being around 30-50cm away from two sleeping LIONS, yes there was a huge piece of plastic separating us from each other but it was amazing. If I could have I probably would have sat myself down on the floor watching them until someone physically removed me. Sadly it was busy and we wanted to see a lot more of the zoo so we had to move on. They were amazing though, so clam and cuddly looking, they even twitched in their sleep like Oz does. Seriously if someone let me I'd most likely have tried to curl up with them while they slept.
The Meercats were also amazing and sooo much smaller than I imagined they would be - about the size of a large McDonald's soft drink up - and soooo adorable, if you think they are cute in photos etc well in real life soooo much better! I honestly did consider catnapping one of them but I'm pretty sure that would have been frowned upon. Other highlights included the riding the sky rail that gave the most amazing views of the zoo and Balboa Park in general. The elephants - [particularly a 42-year-old female called Cha-Cha who was surprisingly small but such a character, constantly demanding food from her handler. We also saw the sea lion show - which was great in terms of seeing a sea lion but otherwise a tad on the short side.
In total we spent about six and a half hours wandering the zoo. The weather was beautiful without a cloud in the sky in sight, this of course has lead me to have the most horrific sunburn ever, well since the time I sat outside Alton Towers for ages in the sun, and its starting to hurt a little. Oh well at least I'll have fun stories to tell!
After the zoo we headed back to the hostel to wait for Jenny to arrive so we could head down to Comic Con to pick up our badges and have a nose at the preview night. Badges collection was awesome, no queues, tonnes of people giving out badges which were found by using a barcode and printing out a ticket in a matter of seconds. Unbelievably quick and trouble free. Then we headed to the dealers area, that was kinda horrific, people crammed everywhere, pushing and shoving to get at stalls and freebies. I think if I come again I may just avoid that area altogether unless I need to find a signing or something like that. Tomorrow the panels start, which is what I'm most interested in, so hopefully Friday and Saturday will be less scary/exhausting.
The exiting Comic Con was possibly the scariest part of it all with thousands of people trying to cross a road and get home - sheer madness, even worse that crowds leaving Wembley I swear! Even scarier was that we had to cross a tramline - kinda horror movie-esque really! When we had finally crossed the walk back to the hotel seemed like it took forever due to the sheer number of people and when we got back all we managed to do was make dinner and pass out - it had been a very loooong day!
