Day 2: Mulu National Park
Well we have arrived at the Mulu national park. I am well impressed we got to go on an aeroplane with propellers and land on a strip in the middle of the jungle.
I would like to tell you that they had just cleared some trees and we had to buzz an elephant before we could land but it's just not true.
The little air strip has a proper runway and little terminal building. And then I got to ride in the back of the Nissan hi lux from the airport to the camp! I wish I had bought a proper Indiana jones adventure hat!!
We are all sitting down to lunch before we head off into the jungle on our first trek. I don't feel so bad about all of the kit I bought now... Emma has bought a hat which I can only describe as a bee keeper hat... Broad rim with a black net.
I wish I had taken a picture of her face as Henry our guide told her that black netting attracts insects! (it's a lie but it was amusing to hear her b**** about it and threaten to write a nasty letter to crag hoppers to complain!
Eventually the beaming smile on Henrys face gave the game away!
I have just dropped my bag off in the long house that we are staying in. I am very impressed. It has a large communal space and two 4 berth bedrooms with only two of us in each.
Lisa made me go and photograph the spider that is in the tree outside her room... I have to admit that when she was first told me I thought she was just being a bit of a girl banging on about the insects (arachnid I know!) but it really is as big as your hand and it really is sat in the tree right outside her longhouse.
Lunch was great. I had chicken noodle soup and it was better than the last time I went to waggamammas!
I sat with Lisa and Triv and his wife (he is welsh... Bit don't hold it against him he seems like a really decent bloke!) Sadly I have forgotten his misses's name at the moment but I am sure I will remember later.
So far I have seen millepedes, butterflies, dragonflies, ants too big to step on, cool flying stick insects with bright red wings and this HUGE flying beetle thingy. (I think David Attenborough's job is safe!)
